House Calls, #997, January 11, 2026: Enter at your own risk!

Our Hospital systems are in crisis. They cannot handle any sort of overload and this has become Crystal Clear during the flu season. Patients are now being warehoused in ambulance bays with beds separated by sheets. The healthcare professionals are faced with trying to provide care in less than optimal conditions.

And yet, it is unlikely that people dying in emergency rooms waiting for care or people dying on waiting lists does not seem to lead to changes in how our healthcare system is organized. There are ten times as many healthcare bureaucrats per capita in Canada compared to those, for example, in Germany: one in 1415 in Canada versus one in 15,545 in Germany. An yet despite these greater numbers, they remain unable to repair a system that is held together by twine.

These health bureaucrats provide absolutely no frontline care. Why are we spending all this money on these individuals when we could reduce their numbers by 90 percent and redirect it to frontline care? Maybe even build a few more hospitals or extensions to same. Why don’t we look at what Germany and other European nations do in their universal healthcare systems and emulate that in Canada? Do not hold your breath waiting for an answer. You will suffer the same fate as those unfortunate people waiting for care.

Your Calls and Comments:

  • Management of muscle and joint pain
  • Acute car access and how our hospitals are funded compared to those in Europe
  • Arm and leg pain that might be polymyalgia rheumatica. We review what this is.
