Sunday House Call, #672, October 21, 2018: Giving men the finger when the evidence states otherwise
Topics today include:
Advertising campaigns for digital rectal exams (DRE) to screen for prostate cancer are inappropriate on several levels. Shaming men for being reticent and promoting humourous ads about famous fingers to promote it is in poor taste. Would you create a similar ad for women about PAP tests for cervical cancer screening in terms of making light of the procedure? Again, inappropriate. Further, DREs are not recommended for prostate cancer screening in family practice.
Your calls about:
- Itchy upper arms
- Back pain
- What does the spleen do? Are there any implications for cancer?
