House Calls, #964, March 30, 2025: And spread it does; Measles infections increase in the US and southern Ontario

The unfortunate yet predictable consequences of low Measles vaccination rate now being reported in the US and Canada is a hallmark of how reality does not accommodate public misunderstanding about the MMR vaccine.

I also discuss the harm that is wrought upon patients subjected to long wait times to see a specialist. I cite a few real world examples from my practice.

Your Calls and Comments:

  • A man with neurofibromatosis does not have a family doctor. He wants to know if his hope-to-be-family-doctor should have background knowledge about his illness.
  • Clarifying that MMR vaccine is not an mRNA vaccine
  • What does it means when your EKG reports low voltage?
  • The use of DMARDS for ulcerative colitis. A caller was concerned about side effects. However the medication, Remicade, is quite effective and improves quality of life. Patients are monitored for side effects to ensure safety. It is always a balnce between risk and benefit.
