House Calls, #954, January 12, 2025: Be careful what you wish for. You may not like when it comes true.

The Federal Government’s changes to the Canada Health Act means that in 2026 provinces can allow nurse practitioners, pharmacists and midwives to submit billings to the provincial health plan. If it is anything like what physicians experience with a fee schedule that is 2.88 times (ref: OMA) below the OMA recommended physician fees, they may find it difficult to negotiate a fee schedule that is commensurate with keeping the lights on in their offices.
