The British Columbia Human Rights Tribunal (BCHRT)accepts a complaint from a “fat intersectional feminist” (her words) who was offended by her obstetrician’s recommendation to refer her for high risk obstetrical care given the potential complications for the pregnancy and fetus. Her BMI was 46 (5 foot five women, 275 lbs as an example, not necessarily her height).
There are well-established medical risks under these circumstances. There is nothing controversial about it. Her physician is following the standard of care and due diligence required to reduce poor health outcomes for the mother and baby.
Amy Hamm of the National Post reports on this file and the upside down worldview of the BCHRT.
