House Calls, #963, March 16, 2025: Half Truths and Misconceptions

With the spread of measles now seemingly on the increase, it is reasonable to ask questions from those who advocate The Square One Fallacy as justification for refuting all the studies and evidence to date that have shown the efficacy and safety of vaccines.
As long as human beings are involved in research, there will be failures and people will be harmed. Certainly, it is imperative to continue to learn from mistakes to prevent hurting people and incorporating that into better standards of practice.

But the intention is not to harm and as physicians we recoil at the notion of harming patients. When we make mistakes a patient suffers. For those with empathy and a conscience, we do not wish our patients to suffer nor do we want to experience the overwhelming guilt, remorse, and sorrow of being responsible for said harm.

What is happening in the US and in some parts of Canada is tragic because it did not have to happen. Sometimes people who are experts in their field do know what they are talking about despite protestations and opinions from others who think they know more than what they do.
