Microsurgical repair of spinal disc disease

Original broadcast date: February 1, 2009

For people with degenerative disk disease of the lumbar spine, the morbidity from pain and restricted movement can have severe adverse affects on their quality of life. For many because of the extent of their disease, surgery cannot be performed to fuse the damaged area.

A new microsurgical technique first performed at Mount Sinai Medical Center can now offer patients who previously could not have minimally invasive repair of their spine due to the extent of their disc disease, a change to regain function and mobility and quality of life.

  • Dr. Jonathan Hyde, orthopaedic surgeon (specializing in spinal surgery) at Mount Sinai Medical Center in Miami-Dade County. Dr. Hyde’s expertise is in both open and minimally invasive surgical techniques.
